Sonal Mithal. Director and Conservation Architect.


Sonal holds a PhD in Landscape Architecture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). She received an undergraduate degree in architecture and a master’s degree in architectural conservation. Her work focuses on management strategies for historical landscapes, which prioritize design as an active medium to formalize international heritage policies. As an academician she has taught design studios that focus on developing design methodologies for making visible the politics of heritage constitution all the while offering an enhanced user experience at historical urbanscapes. She has taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is currently teaching at the Center for Environmental Planning and Technology [CEPT] University, Ahmedabad. She has conducted cross-disciplinary workshops with performance and visual artists in India and US, to explore the significance of body as a medium to understand heritage landscapes. She is a member of Architects for Society, a non-profit organization that focuses on envisaging better environments for disadvantaged communities.

Sumesh Modi. Principal Conservation Architect.


Sumesh holds a master’s degree in architectural conservation at the School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi. His work spans architectural practice and restoration projects. He is also associated with Raman Bhakta School of Architecture, Bardoli in the capacity of Director. He is pursuing his doctoral research in traditional water systems at PRASADA, University of Cardiff.

Anokhi Varma. Conservation Architect.


Anokhi holds a master’s degree in Historic Preservation at the College of Architecture and Planning, University of Colorado, Denver, USA. She worked with Barlow Preservation Services LLC in Boulder, Colorado for a year before joining People for Heritage Concern. Her experience in preservation projects includes restoration of historic windows, doors, exterior trim in old town Louisville, and documentation. She has worked on the 2013 Old Town Louisville Historic Resource Reconnaissance Survey. That project entailed on-site survey of individual properties, database construction and maintenance, document editing, and scholarship typical of an architectural historian. She is also a visiting faculty at the Faculty of Architecture, Sarvajanik College of Engineering and Technology (SCET) and Gijubhai Chhaganbhai Patel Institute of Architecture,  Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat.

Devarshi Jariwala. Architect.         


Devarshi holds a bachelor’s degree at the Sarvajanik College of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Architecture, Surat. She has been associated with People for Heritage Concern from 2019. She has worked previously with Ar. Richard Belho from Zynorique Initiatives in Kohima, Nagaland as a trainee for a year. She has explored local material and construction techniques with Bamboo during her time in Nagaland. She has also volunteered to teach children at Rivenburg School in Medziphema village, Nagaland during her stay there.

Yatin Acharya. Senior Architect.

Yatin holds a bachelor’s degree at the Sarvajanik College of Engineering and Technology, Surat. He has been associated with People for Heritage Concern since 2002. He has been undertaking overall monitoring on sites and devising execution plans. He is heading documentation and coordination within the team to scale new levels at every step for the development of the organization.
